Dotty Drop Necklaces

Here's 2 new necklaces that I just finished. I made a sterling silver setting for each dichroic cabrochon and hooked them together, so the pendants are flexible. Dichroic glass on white is the hardest of all dichroics to photograph, but it really is very pretty and sparkly.
Both these necklaces will be on Ruby Lane soon. My daughter has started writing my listings for Ruby Lane, she is better at writing than I am. We hope this will help my jewelry sales.

Beads

Quartz carved flower .........................Porcelain beads .............................Foam puppet faces

I am putting beads and other supplies for sale on Etsy. These are a few I just listed. If you known anything about the foam puppet faces, please leave a post for me. Update! The puppet faces sold to a lady in CA, and one of the two quartz carved flowers I had also sold. It looks like beads are selling faster than finished jewelry these days.

Jasper crosses ................................African glass beads
I have several kinds of stone cross beads on Etsy, plus lots of glass beads. I will be adding more every week.

Amethyst

Amethyst has always been one of my favorite stones. The color can range from a deep, rich purple to beautiful shades of lavender.
Amethyst is considered the birthstone for February, astrologically Amethyst assigned to Aquarius. Long ago people believed amethyst could prevent drunkenness. Drinking from a cup made of amethyst was prescribed, and may also be why we no longer expect amethyst to keep us sober!
Many uses are ascribed to amethyst these days. It is said to quicken the intelligence, reduce tension, lift the spirits, heal the pain of emotional trauma, and secure tranquility. Plus it enhances intuition and insights, and can be used as an aid to meditation. Amethyst is one of the stones for the Sixth Chakra, or Third Eye.

Heart earrings for your Valentine

Heart earrings in shades of purple dichroic glass; Pink dichroic glass earrings with dichroic hearts.
Here's two pairs of earrings that I put in my Ruby lane shop this weekend. Both pairs feature patterned dichroic glass topped with clear glass, and then overlaid with dichroic hearts. The dichroic glass sparkles and changes as the earrings move. The hearts are transparent, from some angles they change color and allow the background to shine through. All metal parts are sterling silver.

Purple and Turquoise Dichroic Pendant with Mountain Back

A purple and turquoise dichroic glass pendant in a sterling silver prong setting. The back has a picture of the mountains cut out of the silver.

I call this style of glass work "patches", and the setting a "picture back" setting. The predominate colors in this piece are purple and turquoise, however as you move the piece you see flashes of many colors and hues.
I cut the setting out of a single piece of sheet silver, and then shaped the prongs to fit the glass. This kind of setting has to be individually hand made for the glass piece. If you have a stone, or glass piece you would like me to make a setting for, contact me and we'll see what we can work out.

Make a battery powered bead spinner!

I made my own battery powered bead spinner today, using pieces I got at second hand stores. I found a used toy potters wheel for the base. It takes 4 batteries, and turns steadily at a speed that works well for bead spinning. For the top, I found 2 bowls that have the turned in top edge to keep the beads from spinning out of the bowl, and flat bottoms. One of my bowls is wood, and the other is glass.
I assembled the bead spinner with Velcro strips. I put 4 strips on the top of the wheel, and four squares on the bottom of both of my bowls. The potters wheel has circles on the top which make it easy to center the bowls on the wheel.
Then I put my beads in the bowl and turned my bead spinner on. Now I have a $5 battery powered bead spinner, with a built in tray to catch dropped beads.

My wood bowl is smaller than the glass one. A definite convenience is that I can change bowls without putting the beads away, and I can have as many bowls as I can find in thrift stores.
The mechanism underneath holds the tray about 2" above the table, and the little cup holders on the side will also hold a funnel, so it's easy to put the beads back in the bag.

Starry Cabochon and Post Earrings on Etsy

Red dichroic post earrings: Starry dichroic on white glass cabochon: Dichroic little boxes post earrings
The post earrings have sterling silver posts, and large hypoallergenic ear nuts. I like these ear nuts because they hold the earrings up flat against the ear lobes.

Cabochons on Etsy, CarolsCreations

Gold spiral on red cabochon: Pink dichroic pendant w/ SS chain: Gold spiral on red cabochon

Here's a few of the dichroic cabochons I'm selling in CarolsCreations on Etsy. All three of cabochons have holes at the top to make it easy to hang them as pendants.
The gold spirals I made using DicroSlide, they are permanently fused to the glass. The red background is more sparkly than it appears in these photos. I can make bails for these, similar to the center photo.
The pink pendant in the middle comes with a sterling silver chain, and bail.

Hello, this is me

Art was always my favorite class at school. I consider myself lucky to have gone to schools that had very well equipped art departments. I was introduced to silversmithing in my junior year of high school. In college, I started as a ceramics major but soon switched to jewelry and have continued exploring jewelry for over 40 years now.
Everything I make is individually handmade. I prefer working directly with the metal, shaping and soldering the silver and/or gold. I love colors, and prefer to work with colored stones. Dichroic glass was love at first sight for me, this medium allows me to create my own cabochons and beads. I had to learn how to kiln fuse glass as soon as I saw the bright colors in dichroic glass.
